5 minute Friday

Today I am participating in 5 minute Friday, with Lisa-Jo Baker. I found her blog this week and love her style!

Here's the rules:

1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community…

Today's topic: HOME

And GO!

So, my home is a wreck! Like a real disaster area, but I can honestly say I have had LOTS of fun with my kids this week. Devin has been working late with so many food shows this month, that by the time I get home, cook dinner, clean up dinner, give baths, play and read books, put kids to bed- it's 8:30 and I need to shower and get things lined up for the next day I am exhausted and want to go to bed myself.
I have spent more time doing crafts (we made leprechauns) and building forts, and playing dress up. I have shut the playroom door at night instead of picking up the toys. I love my home, I love to have people over to my home- but my home is not in visitor-friendly shape right now.
That being said, we're happy, we've made memories- and isn't that really what home is all about!?!? Chatham probably won't notice, and definitely won't remember that two mornings worth of cereal bowls are in the sink; but he CAN tell you that Mommy dressed up as Captain America and saved the Joker from the death trap (made of q-tips) under the craft table in the playroom. He can tell you that we built  a dinosaur cave out of legos and the stegosaurus ate the roof.
Maybe one day my home will be consistently neat and tidy; maybe one day my home will be a place always ready for drop in visitors, but for now my home is what I have always wanted me home to be- full of fun, loving memories.

STOP!

  1. Great post - sounds like you have had a fun week! I struggle with just having fun vs. getting the house clean. I am getting better at letting things around the house go and just make memories with my children. I am sure there will be lots of time to keep the house clean once they are all grown up.

  3. Yep, a clean house is for later on when the kids move out. Haha! Glad you had such a fun week with the kids. That's what it's all about. I need some more of those times right now and am looking forward to it happening in the coming months. Who really wants drop-in visitors anyway? ;-)
